Le Gerrit

A unique and
respectful place

Since 1985, we’ve run this place as a family, with the same philosophy and values. In 2026… we call it an eco-friendly campsite.

In fact, we still apply the same program that blends conviviality, simplicity, and nature to help you:

⭐️Fully enjoy your stay and create unforgettable memories

⭐️Discover, respect, and appreciate our entire environment (nature, people, and local history).

Sustainable

Eco-friendly camping

Today, we remain committed to more eco-responsible and sustainable tourism.

We are dedicated to reducing our negative impact on nature.

Just as many small drops make a mighty river, here are some of our actions, organizational choices, and developments that make your vacation greener and more responsible.

Daily

  • More eco-responsible and local consumption:

(eco-labelled cleaning products, organic and local products, sustainable furniture and materials, refurbished equipment)

  • Controlling energy consumption:

(no swimming pool, no air conditioning, preferential drying of laundry outdoors, choice of more economical solutions for hot water production equipment, automatic or solar lighting)

  • Sharing best practices and inspiring guests to try out some eco-friendly actions during their stay (advice booklet and starter kit of cleaning products)

Better respect for our environment

  • Harmony with the surrounding nature and local history (landscape integration of buildings and accommodations, information on the specific characteristics and activities of the region)

  • Well-being and Eco-citizenship

(Reconnecting with others: respect for living beings and humans with friendliness, kindness and good humor)

  • Well-being

(Reconnecting with nature and oneself… without wifi)

Natural resource management

  • Waste reduction and recycling

(less packaging, more bulk products and washable accessories, composting)

  • Water consumption

(water-saving taps, leak detection, watering restrictions and selection of plants that require little water)

  • Electricity

(choice of a supplier with 100% local and 100% renewable production)

Climate change and biodiversity

  • Outdoor space management

with sound ecological principles (minimal use of plant protection products, responsible mowing, creation of biodiversity areas: flower meadows and insect hotels)

  • New buildings and facilities

locally manufactured, eco-designed and eco-responsible (tents, sanitary buildings, furniture)

  • Reuse and Upcycling (giving a second life to older equipment and housing: for a lower carbon footprint than buying new… and an added story)

Why

Le Gerrit ?

But actually... what does "le Gerrit" mean?

“Eth jerit,” pronounced “èt yèrit,” is a word in the local dialect that has been Gallicized to “le gerrit.” It’s used to designate an area on the edge of the village.

The entrance to our campsite is in the center of the village of Marsous, and the grounds extend over more than a hectare in the meadow that the locals (😉 the inhabitants of Marsous) have always called “le Gerrit.”

In fact, this is also the “official” name given to this entire area of the village (as shown on the land registry map). Thus, there’s Rue du Gerrit, Ruisseau du Gerrit, Chemin du Gerrit… and so our campsite is simply called “le Gerrit.”
